Four days down the Adriatic
A slow drive south along the coast road, from Trieste to the Bay of Kotor.

We left early, before the traffic on the ring road, and took the coast road wherever there was a choice. The motorway is faster; the coast road is the reason to come.
The long middle
The middle of the drive is the part people skip. It is also where the light is best: long, low, and slightly yellow in the late afternoon, bouncing off limestone that has been bleached almost white.
Every town looked like the last one, and every one of them was worth stopping in.
